On July 2, 2025, NASAβs Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope detected GRB 250702B, the longest-lasting gamma-ray burst (GRB) ever observed. Typical GRBs, among the most energetic explosions in the universe, fade within hours, but this one persisted for nearly an entire day! An unprecedented duration. Even stranger, it appeared to emit three distinct pulses, which is unusual because GRBs usually destroy their sources, preventing repeat bursts.
